# Connect Squarespace

> Connect your Squarespace site with a login so Ryze can publish articles to your blog.

Squarespace has no blog API. To publish, Ryze signs in to your site with the login you give it and adds each article in the blog editor, the way a person would. Your login and password are stored encrypted.

## Before you connect

* **An email and password login.** Use the account of the site owner or a contributor with **Content Editor** access.
* **Two-factor authentication off** for that login. If Squarespace asks for a verification code, the connection is refused. A contributor account without two-factor authentication works.
* **A blog on the site.** If there isn't one yet, add a Blog page in Squarespace (**Pages → + → Blog**).

## Connect in Ryze

    * **Site URL** — your site address, the `squarespace.com` one or your own domain, e.g. `https://yoursite.squarespace.com`
    * **Squarespace email** — the owner or contributor login
    * **Squarespace password** — the password for that login

If the site has one blog, Ryze picks it. If it has several, open the Squarespace integration settings and choose one in the **Blog** picker. Nothing publishes until a blog is selected.

## How publishing works

Articles go out in the daily publishing window that starts at 20:00 UTC. Ryze opens one browser session per site and publishes up to 5 articles in it, one after another. For each article it:

1. Creates a draft with the article's title and slug.
2. Pastes the body into the editor.
3. Uploads the featured image and places body images as image blocks.
4. Saves the excerpt, SEO title and meta description, then publishes the post.

The post lives at your blog's address plus the article slug.

If the featured image or a body image fails to upload, the article still publishes. It gets a warning in your articles list that says which images were skipped.

Publishing is safe to repeat. Ryze finds its own post by slug, so a retry never creates a second copy. It never overwrites a post it didn't create.

## Republish and unpublish

* **Republish** replaces the post in place in one session.
* **Unpublish** deletes the post from your Squarespace blog.

## Troubleshooting

| The Squarespace blog already has a draft at "…" that Ryze does not recognise     | Delete that draft in Squarespace (or rename the article slug), then publish again.                                |
| Squarespace refused to save the new post / saved the post at a different address | Change the article slug to letters, digits and hyphens, then publish again.                                       |
| Another Squarespace publish for this site is still running                       | Wait a few minutes. Scheduled publishing goes through once the other publish finishes.                            |
