# Switching from Semrush

> What Semrush does that Ryze does not, what Ryze does that Semrush does not, and how to move without losing your historical data.

Semrush and Ryze solve different problems. Semrush is a research and reporting platform — it tells you what to do. Ryze is an execution agent — it does the work. Understanding that difference matters more than any feature comparison.

## What each does

| | Semrush | Ryze |
| -------------------------------- | ------------- | ---------------------- |
| Keyword and competitor research | Extensive | Yes, via DataForSEO |
| Site audit | Yes | Yes |
| **Ships the fixes** | No | Yes |
| **Writes and publishes content** | Assists | Yes, automated |
| Backlink analysis | Extensive | Building, not analysis |
| Backlink building | No | Yes |
| AI visibility tracking | Yes | Yes |
| Paid ads management | Research only | Yes, executes |
| Rank tracking | Yes | Yes, daily |

## Where Semrush is stronger

Being straightforward: Semrush has a deeper research toolkit and a far larger historical database. If your work is analysis — competitive research, market sizing, backlink forensics, detailed keyword exploration — Semrush does more.

Some teams keep both: Semrush for research, Ryze for execution.

## Where Ryze is different

Ryze audits, decides, and then **acts** — shipping fixes, publishing content, building links, and managing campaigns, under your approval settings. Semrush will tell you that 400 pages have missing meta descriptions; Ryze writes and ships them.

## What does not transfer

Be clear-eyed about this before switching:

* **Historical keyword and ranking data stays in Semrush.** There is no import. Export what you need first.
* **Saved projects, dashboards, and reports** do not carry over.
* **Your rank tracking history restarts.** Ryze tracks daily from when you connect.

What *does* carry over is anything that lives outside the tool: your Search Console history (up to 16 months, available on connection), your site, and your content.

## Before you cancel

1. **Export keyword lists** you have curated — these represent real work
2. **Export position tracking history** for your key terms
3. **Export the backlink profile**, particularly for a migration or disavow record
4. **Export site audit findings** you have not yet actioned
5. **Screenshot or export dashboards** used in client reporting

Do this while the subscription is live. Exports are not available afterwards.

## Setting up Ryze

[Connect your store](/connect-shopify) and [Search Console](/connect-gsc), set your [agent context](/agent/context), and run the first audit. Search Console supplies the historical query data that matters most, so much of what you would have lost is recovered from the source rather than from Semrush.

See [quickstart](/quickstart) and [your first 7 days](/first-week).
