Impressions move before clicks, and clicks move before revenue. Reading impressions first gives you weeks of warning in either direction.
Reading them honestly
Average position is the most misleading number in SEO. Publishing long-tail pages that rank at position 40 drags the average down while adding traffic. A falling average position alongside rising impressions and clicks is good. Search Console reports with a 2–3 day delay. Recent days are always incomplete. Do not read the last 48 hours as a trend. Seasonality dominates short windows. Compare year over year where you have the history, not week over week. AI citations are volatile by nature. Only a minority of cited URLs repeat between runs.
